  • Meet Chris Long – Preacher and Online Evangelist

    Last updated in April, 2006.

My name is Chris Long. I was the creator and webmaster, or more appropriately, web evangelist of ChristianBaptistLiving.com although I am no longer associated with ChristianBaptistLiving.com. This is the short version of my story…

I was born again on May 15, 1984 and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Rossville, Georgia. In the spring of 1993, I married my high school sweetheart, Dana Marie Williams, and gave her my name. We now live in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia with our 4 beautiful children.

I answered the call to become a preacher of the gospel on October 28, 1994 shortly after reconsecrating my life to the Lord at New Life Baptist Church in the East Ridge community (Georgia side). I had spent the previous 2 years in the U.S. Navy and living in the world’s embrace, away from God. But our faithful God called me to Himself, tenderly and lovingly as always.

I was licensed as a preacher of the gospel on March 24, 1996 at New Life Baptist Church after completing over a year of preaching under the watch care of my church and Pastor Wayne Wallin. After 4 years at New Life Baptist Church, I felt the Lord’s leading to serve Him at the Elizabeth Terrace Baptist Church in Rossville, Georgia, where I now serve as a lay preacher and the coordinator of our outreach ministry to the Union Gospel Mission in Chattanooga.

I am currently studying by correspondence through Slidell Baptist Seminary of Slidell, Louisiana. I plan to earn my Associate of Theology degree this year (2005).

Many people have asked me over the years, what area of ministry I felt that God had called me into and I’m sure that I have given a myriad of uncertain answers, but for the last several years, I have sensed that He must be calling me to be an evangelist. I did not realize until recently that part of that ministry would entail being a web evangelist through this website, but considering this month alone, we have reached numerous people in 45 countries worldwide, I now have come to that realization. One young man from Morocco has been soundly saved after emailing me for more information and is serving God and witnessing for the Lord to his family (and suffering persecution for it). I have received many emails from around the world (some good and some bad) which reassures me that I am on the right track as the preacher / web evangelist of ChristianBaptistLiving.com.

In addition to the web ministry, I have sensed that now is the time to create this page so that people can learn who I am and Pastors who feel led to invite me to preach a meeting or series of meetings would have the opportunity to do so. My work schedule on my secular job is 3 days per week (Thurs-Sat) so I will only be available for meetings Sunday through Wednesday night (depending on travel time).

I am so grateful for the Lord Jesus Christ, His perfect atonement for my sins at Calvary, and His gift of eternal life. I am extremely thankful that He chose to call me, the shy kid who had rather fail a high school book report than speak in front of the class, to be a preacher of the Gospel and an online and offline evangelist, kept by the power of God! Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift!

  • Christian Baptist Beliefs

Christian Baptist beliefs about THE BIBLE: We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the inspired Word of God, inerrant, complete and final revelation of God’s will to man, and the supreme standard to all faith and life. (Isaiah 40:8; II Timothy 3:16, 17; John 10:35; II Peter 1:19-21).

Christian Baptist beliefs about GOD: We believe in one God, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, manifesting himself in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; one in nature, attributes, power, and glory. (Genesis 1:1; Mark 12:39; Mathew. 28:19; II Corinthians 13:14; John 1:1-4, 14; John 5:17-27; Philippians 2: 6-11).

Christian Baptist beliefs about JESUS CHRIST: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin, Mary, and that He is true God and true man. (Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-35; John 1:1-4,14; John 5:17-27; Philippians 2:6-11).

Christian Baptist beliefs about MAN: We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, that he sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death, which is separation from God; that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are sinners in thought, word, and deed. (Genesis 1:26; 2:7-9, 16, 17; 3:1-9; Psalm 14:3, 4; 51:5; 58:3; Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3).

Christian Baptist beliefs about SALVATION: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe on Him and repent (fully acknowledge that they have sinned against God by breaking His holy law, and turn from sin to Christ) are justified on the ground of His shed blood on the cross, and are saved by grace through faith, wholly apart from human-merit and works. (John 1:29; Acts 13:38, 39; 16:31; Romans 3: 21-28; Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:3-8; Luke 13:3,5)

Christian Baptist beliefs about REGENERATION: We believe that all who receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith and repentance are born again by the Holy Spirit through the Word of God, and thereby become children of God. (John 3:3-8, 14-16, 1:12, 13, 5:24; 10:28, 29; I Peter 1:23; II Peter 1:4-7; I John 3:1-3; Luke 13:3,5)

Christian Baptist beliefs about THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, and the administrator of the things of God: convincing of sin, revealing Christ, teaching the truth, restraining evil, energizing believers in prayer, worship and service, and is ever present in the believer as our comforter and helper. (Psalm 139:7-12; John 7:38, 39; 15:26; 16:13, 14; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 6:19; II Thessalonians 2).

Christian Baptist beliefs about SATAN: We believe Satan is an adversary, a calumniator, the prince of this world, the god of this age, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience; that he fell through pride, and that he will be judged and cast into the lake of fire. (Ezekiel 28:12-18; Isaiah 14:12-14; Job 1:6, 7; John 8:44; Ephesians 2:2; II Corinthians 4:4, 11, 13-15; Revelation 20:1-3, 7-10).

Christian Baptist beliefs about THE ANTICHRIST: We believe the Pope of Rome to be an Antichrist as evidenced by one of his many titles as the “Vicar of Christ.”

Christian Baptist beliefs about THE RETURN OF CHRIST: We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, His ascension into Heaven, His present life there for us as our High Priest and Advocate, and His personal, bodily, visible, return to establish His kingdom on earth, to reign as the only potentate: the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Luke 24:26-43; John 20:24-29; Acts 1:9, 10; I Corinthians 15:20-25; I Timothy 6:14, 15; Revelation 1:7; 19:11-16; 20:6).

Christian Baptist beliefs about HEAVEN AND HELL: We believe in the bodily resurrection of all the dead: the saved, to a life of eternal glory and bliss in heaven with God; the unsaved, to age-during judgment in the lake of fire. (John 5:28-29; Revelation 20:6, 11-15, 21:1-8; Matthew 10:28, 18:8-9, 25:41 and 46; Mark 9:43-49; II Thessalonians 1:6-9).

Christian Baptist beliefs about EVANGELISM: We believe that it is the privilege and responsibility of every believer to do his utmost to give the Gospel of Christ to the whole world. We further believe that the message of the Gospel has been diluted by most of the church into a life enhancement rather than a life preserver with our Lord Jesus Christ as the life giver. We believe this dilution has taken place mainly due to a neglect of the proper use of God’s law to convict sinners of their specifically sinful nature and state, and then failing to adequately warn them of God’s judgment and wrath to come upon them if they remain a transgressor outside of Christ. The function of the law is to bring the knowledge of sin, therefore stopping the mouth that the whole world may become guilty before God. (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 1:8; Matthew 4:19; John 17:18, 20:21 and II Corinthians 5:20; Romans 7:7-13; I John 3:4; Galatians 3:19,24-26; Romans 3:19)

Christian Baptist beliefs about SEPARATION: We believe that we are called to be a separated people to abide in Christ, to walk in the Spirit and to enjoy victory over the world, the flesh and the devil. (Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 5:16; I John 2:15- 17; Colossians 3:1-17 and II Corinthians 2:14).

Christian Baptist beliefs about ORDINANCES: We believe that there are two ordinances of the Church: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that sprinkling is the scriptural mode. (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; I Corinthians 11:23-32 and Matthew 3:16).

Christian Baptist beliefs about ETERNAL SECURITY: We believe that all who have truly been born again by the Spirit of God through faith in Christ are eternally secure. We believe it is the privilege of all such to be assured of their present salvation and eternal security. We also believe that if a person does not manifest the fruit of the spirit as given in Galatians 5:22-23, there is sufficient cause to “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves…” (II Corinthians 13:5) (John 10:20-29, 5:24; II Timothy 1:12; Philippians 1:6 and Romans 8:33-39).

  • KJV Study Bible reivews and recommendations

    Following are recommendations for Bibles.

    Our top recommendation:

Thompson Chain Reference KJV Bibles are simply the best of their kind. There is not another that I recommend more highly. I received my first Thompson Chain from my sister on my eighteenth birthday many years ago.

I literally wore this Bible out as the binding finally came loose after more than frequent use. I love this particular copy so much and have so many notes written in it that I am even considering having it rebound (which is extremely expensive) instead of opting for the cheaper option of buying a new one!

    Other Recommendations

The Old Scofield – still a favorite of many throughout the decades since its first publishing

I never owned a Scofield for years until I won a copy on the radio. The primary reason I never sought one out is that I knew I did not agree with many of C.I. Scofield’s notes on subjects such as the infamous gap theory as well as Leviathan and Behemoth (both in the book of Job). But I finally came to the realization that I don’t have to agree with all of the notes.

I just have to agree with the Bible text, which is the Word of God. I do however still benefit from many of C.I. Scofield’s notes on other topics. You will have to decide for yourself.

I have never owned a Ryrie Study Bible, but many people I know have recommended them to me. They are pretty popular and allegedly helpful.

Giant Print KJV Bibles are always a help to those who have trouble reading small print as well as many preachers and teachers who may like to lay their Bibles on a pulpit or lectern while reading their text. The giant print is perfect for reading from distances such as these. Not to mention the price on this one is certainly right!

I was not even aware that Evidence Bibles were available in King James Version until now. I have, however, seen many of the notes contained in it and you will not find better notes on proper evangelistic techniques anywhere!

Find within its pages wisdom from great men of God like Spurgeon, Moody, Wesley, Finney, Whitfield, and others.

The Evidence Bible also teaches you how to prove God’s existence and answer one hundred common objections to Christianity.

You can even learn how to effectively show the absurdity of evolution, how to witness to an atheist, and how to share your faith with your family, co-workers, and everyone else.

Never again be intimidated with the fear of not knowing how to witness to specific people groups like Jews, people with cancer, pro abortionists, Buddhists, Hindus, Mormons, Jehovah’s witnesses, homosexuals, or even lost church members (tares among the wheat).

  • Denmark Cartoons or Islamic Caricatures

    By Rev. Michael Bresciani

Denmark’s Jyllands-Posten newspaper issued an apology and whisked it off to the Jordanian news agency Petra for publishing cartoons that supposedly were insulting to the prophet Muhammad.

The arguments about the poor taste of the cartoonist notwithstanding, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Denmark’s prime minister says he and his government cannot apologize for the country since the newspaper is independent and not an agency of the government. To most people this makes sense but Islam is not most people.

It would seem that this entire tip toeing around Islam is far above absurdity and much closer to insanity. Can anyone remember an apology coming to Indonesia for the bombings there by radical Islamists? Did the British get an apology for the bombings of its subway? Who has heard one representative of any radical Islamic group apologize for the death and destruction wrought in America on 9/11?

Is the apology offered by the Danish newspaper for there lack of taste and discretion or is it for other reasons? Is it because boycotts of Danish products like milk, insulin and food stuffs? Or finally is it the fear or reprisals in the form of terrorist attacks on embassies, public places, schools and homes. Perhaps it is only a reasonable attempt at diplomacy that a free nation would employ under any circumstances in a civilized world.

Terrorism by any other name is still just terrorism, insulted prophets not withstanding. If free nations have decided not to negotiate with terrorists on any level then we are forced to ask, why then are we making apologies for cartoons? Last time I looked, no cartoon had ever toppled a building or killed a child in the street.

The behavior of radical Islam is creating a cartoon all on its own. It is more like a caricature than a cartoon. A caricature by nature is a cartoon that depicts something by exaggerating it’s most prominent or obtrusive qualities. The “would be” beauty has hips and other feminine features exaggerated to say she is voluptuous. The guy who wants his strength accentuated has the artist draw muscles way out of proportion to his body to accentuate that point.
    Denmark Cartoons or Islamic Caricatures

Islam has been creating a caricature not with brush or pen for the last several years all around the globe. It has exaggerated features including the bombing of men, women and children almost always without mercy, without warning and without reason. Not one apology has ever been offered for this dreadful radical Islamic cartoon.

I have been warning Christians for over thirty years of the coming portent of the world’s last dictator commonly referred to as the Antichrist. It is well known to them that the bible clearly predicts that he will exalt himself above every other world leader before him and above every kind of worship of God, be it the worship of the true God or some aberration, heresy or cult.

II Thessalonians 2:4 “Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

It is barley known to the Muslim faith and certainly would not be heeded or even acknowledged but that last dictator will make no apologies to them either. He will endeavor to crush every major religion in the world. He will momentarily succeed but not with warfare of force but rather by drawing the entire world into an economic system that no one will escape.

Only a handful of westerners have ever converted to Islam in its entire history because of pictures it draws much like the Danish cartoon. Those pictures make a caricature of its ugliest components which are death, judgment and punishment, both on an unwarranted and unreasonable scale.

Maybe civilized people still prefer pictures of a gentle Savior with children around him. Or a woman caught in adultery saved from stoning by a merciful Messiah who came to save the world rather than judge it. Millions of people have been converted by these pictures and will be much more until the end of time.

Insult and injury are part of the present geopolitical landscape.

Not many apologies are being offered up by anyone and even if they were, would it make much difference, would it avert a war or the next act of terrorism?

  • Iraqi Religion – Islam or Secularism

No doubt the primary Iraqi religion or rather, religious influence is the Islamic religion. Just as Islam has left its mark, or should I say scars, on many a nation in that part of the world and Iraq is certainly no exception. While Saddam Hussein was primarily a secularist, his brutal tactics and merciless reign of slaughter rings true of the real Iraqi religion…Islam.

Some would resent these statements and reject them outright, saying that Islam is a religion of peace. They say that cruel tyrants like Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden do not represent true Islam, but some extreme and fundamentalist faction of the Muslim religion that thrives on terror and hate. But, I beg to differ with this politically correct, but irrational conclusion that denies not only the true nature of, but also the history of Iraq religion: Islam.

Yes my friend, the history of Iraq and the history of Islam are both a bloody trail of murder and execution. But, let me say that this is not the fault of the nation of Iraq, but rather the fault of bloody Islam.

You see, no matter what they tell you (“they” meaning anyone who denies the truth on the subject), the religion of Islam has plagued the world with violence since it’s inception or rather since it was dreamed up by the so called prophet Mohammed.

Yes, this man who came from a nomadic pagan tribe dreamed up this religion and borrowed Allah from his own polytheistic pagan roots. Yes, Allah was the “moon god”. One of the many that his tribe worshipped. Have you never noticed how often the crescent moon is used on the flags of Islamic nations? Or have you never wondered why the Islamic version of the Red Cross organization is the Red Crescent instead?

We have believed the half truths, political correctness, and whole lies of politicians, Islamic clerics, and soft spoken, tip toeing “theologians” for far too long. Another well versed author said it well when he said that most likely all Muslims are not terrorists, but so far, all of the terrorists have been Muslim.” Ouch! The truth does hurt doesn’t it?

Well, back to Iraq. The Iraqi people have been plagued by this thing called Islam for far too long. And all it takes for a person with eyes that can see and a brain that works to really know what kind of devilish spirit is behind the Islamic terrorist’s actions, is to observe what our troops are going through daily in Iraq today.

(I must pause here and say that our boys are doing an awesome job and I support them 100 percent as a Navy veteran, a patriot, and a person who knows right from wrong.)

Whether the Iraqi people really support the U.S. and multi-national force contingent there, I can’t say…But I feel confident in saying that the true Islamists definitely do not want us there because they wish to continue to dominate the Iraqi people with the old time Iraq religion of Islam.

You see the vast majority of the media and “talking heads” of our society would have us believe, as they have stated over and over again, that the terrorists do not represent true Islam. But, I say that they do indeed. It is the passive (or seemingly passive: During Jihad is the only time Mohammed allows Muslims to lie.) who are (1)either not following the Koran and true tenets of their Islamic religion either deliberately or ignorantly, or

    (2) are lying to the public to cover up their hidden agenda, or

    (3) are so afraid of the terrorists, who are practicing the true historic Iraqireligion of Islam, that they will not dare tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

But, hey, don’t take my word for it. Look to those who have studied this ancient religion of the area of Iraq. Dr. Don Boys has published and excellent work on this phenomenon and how it could effect, or rather destroy America from the inside. His book, Islam: America’s Trojan Horse , is a well researched book written in a scholarly manner, from a Biblical point of view.

It won’t be a popular read for the weak minded who have already given in to popular sentiment…But if you are open to truth and think for yourself, you will appreciate the candor of Dr. Boys.

And by all means, if I have already made you mad by my brief comments (that is not my intention, by the way)…Hang on for a wild ride when you delve into the deep history of Iraq’s leading religion: Islam. Can you handle it or would we have to quote a famous line from Hollywood, “You can’t handle the truth!”

Well, if you can handle the truth…Another must read book is one by Dr. Robert Morey called

The Islamic Invasion. Dr. Morey is also very candid, so get ready!

My friend, do you really want to know the truth about this deadly thing called Islam that has dominated the Iraqi religious center for centuries?

Do you want to know why even Iraqi religious clerics of Islam are seemingly against their own people’s best interest and safety? Can you handle the strong truths that ring oh, so true about the monstrous Islamic religion? Or do you prefer to wallow in ignorance and naivety and ignore the possibilities that the next terror attacks could directly affect you or yours? I hope not.

So, what should the Christian do in response to this great threat of terror and the people of Islam? Do we convert them or kill them as true Islam teaches it’s followers to do? Of course not!

That is not what Biblical Christianity is about! We must first get as informed as possible about the dominant Iraqi religion of Islam and how to effectively evangelize the Islamic people who will listen. As Christians, we must be honest with ourselves and others about what Islam is and that it is vastly different from true Christianity.

Then we must pray for the people of Islam. We should pray for their salvation and discipleship. We must do everything within our power to show them the love of Christ with our lips and our lives…and we must, must, must reach out to them with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is the only one who can break the bondage of the primary Iraqi religion: Islam.

Get informed on Iraqi religion and the religion of Islam here:

Another book about the primary Iraqi religion by a former Muslim from the Islamic woman’s perspective: Voices Behind the Veil: The World of Islam Through the Eyes of Women

Out of the Crescent Shadows: Leading Muslim Women Into the Light of Christ

Here is a book on how the Christian can effectively witness to someone bound by the primary Iraqi religion of Islam: More Than a Prophet: An Insider’s Response to Muslim Beliefs About Jesus & Christianity

I apologize for the obnoxiously extreme use of the phrase “Iraqi religion” on this page. This was done to stick to the keyword subject of “Iraqi religion” as far as the search engines are concerned. We realize that there are also many Christians in Iraq, but as in most Muslim countries, they cannot practice their beliefs freely for fear of persecution including torture and/or execution.

  • Evangelism With Kirk Cameron Living Waters

Kirk is best known as the lovable teen heartthrob Mike Seaver, of the award winning series Growing Pains. He entertained audiences worldwide as the charming troublemaker. He is also known to every Christian as “Buck Williams” from Left Behind: The Movie — based on the NY Times runaway best selling novels by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins.

But much more noteworthy than his acting career was his conversion to Christianity. Kirk was not raised in a church-going home and describes himself as a devout atheist from a very young age. By the age of 8 he was so convinced there was no God that he laughed at those who thought there was. But that all changed one afternoon as he sat in his sports car pondering the first Gospel message he had ever heard.

Since becoming a Christian, Kirk has been a dedicated follower of Christ, making the most of every opportunity to further the Gospel. He speaks in churches, and at community events across the country. He is also the producer and host of The Way of the Master television program.

Kirk and his wife, Chelsea, have six children and live in southern California.

    Everyday Heroes

    March 2004
    By Kirk Cameron

My heroes are men and women, young and old, who do more than just think about being great witnesses for the Lord; they find a way to actually be one. Ray Comfort is one of those heroes. That man is an evangelistic freight train. Once he gets moving, you can’t stop him. He has been building up evangelistic inertia for twenty-five years now, and the momentum of his concern for the lost is unstoppable. Behind the scenes, I know that the success of Ray’s ministry is due to God working through a lowly man (barely over five feet tall 🙂 ) who sees the need for the lost to hear the true Gospel and stops at nothing to get it to them.

Others who have done this in the past are men like D.L. Moody who had so much compassion for people that he would befriend perfect strangers and within minutes, ask them if they were a Christian. If they were not, he’d reason and plead with them to think about the inevitability of their death and present them with the good news of the Gospel. People called him “Crazy Moody” but that didn’t stop him and therefore God has used him to reach millions for Christ. Another one of my present day heroes is a man named Larry Lee. He is a Christian friend in Atlanta who consistently makes a way to share the Gospel with unbelievers. He’s not always popular with his intellectual seminary buddies who would rather argue theological issues than reach the lost, but he’s loved by many non-Christians whose lives have been changed because of his ceaseless efforts to bring them to the Savior. Read this email he recently sent to us:

    Kirk and Ray,

I just got a telemarketing call. We talked for a minute about his business stuff, then I asked him what he thought was on the other side when people died. He said, “You’re serious?” I said yes. He said he didn’t know- that he’s not a religious person. I asked if he was a good person. He said he had his faults, but yes, he’s a good person. I asked if he had heard of the Ten Commandments, he said yes. Have you ever told a lie? Yeah. So what does that make you? A liar. Have you ever stolen something? (silence…) Then he said, “Sir, I really can’t talk about this, my boss won’t let me.” I said, “No problem, just visit this website – needGod.com.” He said, “Okay sir, bye.” But then, this was amazing, he didn’t cut the line, so I listened to him talk to his boss and coworkers for about 2 minutes and they had no idea that I was listening!!!!!!!! His boss said, “Boy, that was a unique one.” Then my guy said, “Yeah, I was just about to tell him I’m the devil.” The boss lady then said this – “So, Adam how many of the Ten Commandments HAVE you broken?” I couldn’t believe it – she said it! Then there was an uproar [in the guy’s office] – all these people started asking what happened, and he starts saying, “Yeah, this guy was asking me about the Ten Commandments, and he said to go to needGod.com. ; Then you could hear people saying, “NeedGod.com? NeedGod.com?” So all these telemarketers were listening and going to go check it out!!!!!!! It was soooooo funny – and I’m just sitting there on the line listening to the whole thing go down. Then the guy said, “Oh, I’ll probably be drinking poison cool-aid by the end of the week.” I guess referring to the Jim Jones cult back in the 1970s. Then he said this – “Yeah, that was something, I woulda talked to that guy all day if I could.” I bet you a million bucks that this guy is convicted and he’s going to check out the website and who knows, maybe he’ll get saved and tell his boss that she needs to [be saved]!!!!!!! That was truly amazing. You just never know – I think that was God giving me just a glimpse of what can happen with just a very small seed planted – an entire room of telemarketers all getting in an uproar about needGod.com!

Attempting to follow in the footsteps of my evangelistic heroes, I ventured out of my comfort zone the other day while I was on a lunch break from the set of the Growing Pains Movie when I saw about thirty five teenagers gathered together at a park, breaking bottles and shouting obscenities at one another. The police had just finished reprimanding them. I had about fifteen minutes, so I approached a group of seven, and noticing that they were all wearing the same blue pants and white shirt combination, I asked them if they had called each other that morning to agree on what to wear. They didn’t think my corny joke was funny and continued to stare me down. One explained that it was their school uniform and that they were let out of school early and were killing time. I showed them the “Pink and Blue Optical Illusion” trick and they suddenly were interested in the skinny white kid with the bad sense of humor.

Then I showed them how to turn a $1 bill into $20 with a little slight of hand. They thought that was amazing so they called all their friends over to see the trickery again. I offered to give any one of them the $20 if they could pass a simple test. “Who can prove to me that they are a good person?” A young man named Frank gave a valiant effort, but after going through the Commandments, proved to be (by his own admission) a lying thief and a blasphemous adulterer-at-heart. The other listening teenagers agreed that like Frank, they too had sinned against God and were not “good” according to God’s standards. This gave me license to speak of the Day of Judgment, the penalty of sinning against a holy God, and then the message of the Cross, forgiveness, and new life in Christ. It was awesome. I was amazed as they were all listening carefully as I spoke of the absolute necessity of turning from sin and placing their faith in Jesus Christ to save them.

Some told me that they had Bibles at home and were encouraged to read them and get their hearts right with God as soon as possible. As I returned to the set, three members of the crew had been watching me, and wanted to know what I had said to settle all those rambunctious teenagers down. I told them the story and witnessed to them as well. It’s amazing how interested people are in the Gospel when you make the time to talk with them and present the Gospel biblically.

Some Christians love the Lord, but neglect to love the lost. They have forgotten that the reason Jesus came to this earth was to seek and save the lost. If we are sincere about being Christ’s followers, we will be passionate about reaching those for whom He died.

Another hero said this–“I am a debtor both to the Greeks and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the Gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to salvation to every one that believes…” (Romans 1: 14-16)

    What about the “What ifs?”

    May 2006
    By Ray Comfort

You are standing in a supermarket line. You have a tract ready for the lady at the checkout. You’ve given out tracts at checkouts before. You have it down. You simply say, “I have something for you that you may like to read when you have a minute.” Then you check out. You get away fast. You have learned to conquer your fears.

But as you wait this time, you hear “Price check!” and your heart sinks. You know that you will now be waiting in line for a few extra minutes. You shake off any thoughts of impatience because you know that you shouldn’t have them.

As you stand in line, you hear a muffled male voice behind you. He isn’t so patient. Your heart skips a beat because there are now three or four others standing in the line behind him. Oh dear. You feel a tinge of fear grip you as you prepare to turn around and offer a million dollar bill tract to the man. That’s when the “What ifs” kick in. They begin with “This isn’t an ideal tract situation. You are not walking away from the checkout. You are stuck in line. What if you give him a tract and he reads it out loud? It’s happened before as you walked away from a checkout, and it made you smile as you heard “The million dollar question? Will you go to Heaven?” You smiled because you were leaving. But what if this man reads it while you are stuck in line? What if other people hear him? Imagine the whole line of people looking at the back of your head as you stood there, thinking, “Religious fanatic!”

Or what if he asks what it is that you gave him? Then what are you going to say? Even if you are able to find the courage to mumble that it’s a gospel tract what if you have to speak loudly, and the people behind him hear you?

Kirk and I were in our Way of the Master Radio studio recently when the what ifs hit. Todd Friel (our co-host) said, “If you are not a Christian, and you would like to talk to a dreamy Hollywood actor, call in. We would love to hear from you.”

We smiled as we waited for some sweet talking starry-eyed Growing Pains fan to call in and hang onto every word Kirk said. A moment or so later we heard, “We will have a commercial break, and then we will come back to Tim from Connecticut.”

Kirk and I looked at each other. This was no wide-eyed, infatuated female fan. This was Tim from Connecticut! Connecticut is the home of Yale University. What if Tim was an Einstein anti-Christian intellectual? Having the gift of insight, I remembered that the word “intimidating” contained the word “Tim.” What if Tim hated Growing Pains, and what if he especially hated Kirk?

A few minutes later Kirk was witnessing to Tim. He was a Roman Catholic, and he was questioning the unbiblical practices of his church. What’s more, he was a soft-spoken, humble-hearted sincere seeker of truth. A week later he called back and had been born again.

What ifs are lies from the father of lies. They rarely materialize, but they are the fertile soil in which paralyzing fear thrives.

A week or so earlier, Kirk and I were conducting a conference in a church in Louisiana. As we walked into the lobby we saw a painting of a coliseum in Rome. In the painting a huge crowd had packed into the massive stadium. Huddled in the middle of the arena were about sixty people.

A closer examination revealed that they were made up of a few elderly men, and the rest were women and children. Around them stood wooden crosses upon which a dozen or so men were cruelly impaled. At the base of each cross fires had been set to slowly burn those who were already enduring the agony of crucifixion.

Their pain-filled deaths were no doubt slow enough to make sure that these witnesses of Jesus of Nazareth were witnesses of a terrible horror. At the edge of the arena stood a massive lion, and directly behind the hungry beast, a ferocious tiger was entering the scene. The dying men were about to observe the grizzly sight of their precious loved ones being torn limb from limb, no doubt to the roar of a blood-thirsty and delighted mass of spectators.

These men, women and children were martyrs, who chose death above deliverance because they refused to renounce their faith in Jesus. They were unashamed to bare His reproach. These precious brothers and sisters in Christ make me feel ashamed of my shame. Their torn limbs, spilled blood, and burned bodies stand as a stark testimony to my cowardice.

The word “martyr” and the word “witness” come from the same Greek word. I am called to be a martyr for Christ as I stand there in that supermarket line. But I am not called to die for Him. Not yet. I am simply called to live for Him. I am to be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is my reasonable service.

If fear begins to torment me in the supermarket line, I have to deal with it. And I deal with it by thinking of the courageous martyrs in that arena. I deal with it in the shadow of their agony. I deal with it by considering my wretched fear of looking foolish in my comfortable life, and their incredible courage in their terrible death. I deal with it by thinking of the liberty that I have to walk out of that supermarket and go home to my loved ones. I deal with it by thinking how pathetic I must look to God, as He considers their honorable humility and my horrible pride.

And I deal with it by looking to Jesus, the author and the finisher of my faith, who for the joy that was before Him, endured the agony of the cross, for me.

    – Chuck Missler

“Ray Comfort sounds a trumpet call to revival in the twenty-first century. [His teaching] is a powerful light in the darkness of our times.”
    – Dr. Jerry Falwell

“Ray Comfort brings us a word that cuts to the core of man’s spiritual dilemma. As we pray for revival and wonder what God’s waiting for, we need to seriously consider this message. To ignore it puts us in spiritual peril.”
    – Terry Meeuwsen–Co-host, The 700 Club

“Ray Comfort is one of the freshest voices in Christian evangelism today. His ministry is one of the very few that meets lost North Americans right where they are, in language they understand. I recommend the use of his ministry, message and materials to everyone. We distributed 2,000 copies of his cassette taped message ‘Hell’s Best Kept Secret’ to every Southern Baptist pastor in Oklahoma and to most of our national leadership. Personally, I use his materials nearly every week.”

  • The Family Friendly Internet Filter for Safe Surfing!

A good internet filter is one of the greatest tools to protect your family and enhance their Christian living. These filters provide protection against all sorts of attacks from outside sources, one of the greatest of these threats is pornography. Pornography assaults the viewer in such a dangerous way because it is “naturally” pleasing to us as human beings and even if we do not wish to see it (because of our Christian convictions), once it appears before our eyes the damage is done. The Bible commands Christians to “abstain from all appearance of evil” and to guard our hearts. Anything we allow into our eyes, ears, etc. has a definite effect on our internal being. These things affect our character whether we want them to or not. Therefore a Christian internet filter is an essential tool to protect both adults and our especially impressionable children. One such internet filter is Covenant Eyes.

One of the added benefits of internet filters is that they do not usually cost very much. Some even come standard with ISP services, but Christians would do well to be cautious about using them rather than one that may be produced separately. Here is why: Most non-Christian or secular filters have very different ideas on what pages and content are considered offensive to Christian families. In fact many of them actually filter out many good Christian sites because the people who design them, frankly consider Biblical Christianity and the language of it as offensive language and even hate speech.

So, when it comes to internet filtering…make sure your filter is Christian (or rather was at least designed by one) so that you will not be guilty of compromising the security of your family.

  • Should Terri Schiavo live or die?

My response to Neal Boortz on the Terri Schiavo Case

Well I just read an article on TownHall.com by Neal Boortz called, “Because she’s earned it” and it really fueled my fire even more. First, I suggest you read his article here: Neal Boortz weighs in on Terri Schiavo Then I suggest you come back here and read my response to his article…

    Hello Neal,

First, I want to thank you for your efforts in thwarting the left and their agenda in this country.

Next, I offer the following response to your article: “Because she’s earned it”.

Please allow me to tell you many of the reasons why I want Terri to live…

    (1) It is not known for a fact what Terri’s will in this case is due to her condition.

    (2) Her loving family has offered to give her a chance at life and rehabilitation which many in the medical community are claiming she may benefit from. What is the harm in trying since we all know that medical professionals can and have been wrong in many cases. In fact, I accept that even the doctors and others who have sided with the family rather than the “husband” could very well be wrong…but what if they are right and Terri can recover.

    (3) I believe in the power of prayer and although God doesn’t always heal a person’s body physically to keep them around with us, He does at times of His own choosing do just that. He may have delayed to bring reason number 4 to the forefront.

    (4) I believe that this case (especially this week’s activity in the courts) sends a strong message to America as to how out of control our Judiciary branch of government is and how they believe and assert that they are the end of every discussion concerning any law or matter. By doing this, they ignore our constitutional system of checks and balances. Constitutionally, the courts have to submit to checks and balances as well. They are not the final checker. If they are, we might as well throw out the other branches and become a nation ruled strictly by judges, but it appears to me that we are already there and need to give back some of the power they have usurped back to the other branches of government and therefore to the people of, by, and for this nation was established.

    (5) There are too many testimonies and sworn affidavits that indicate that Michael Schiavo not only may have ulterior motives to want Terri dead, but also allege that he is guilty of trying to kill her any way he can by denying any meaningful therapy, injecting her with insulin, and making malicious statements that indicate he wants her dead so that he can move on even though he already has moved on into another woman’s bed.

    (6) Adultery is still wrong and Michael is guilty since he is living with his mistress of at least 10 years and has 2 children by her.

    (7) If Michael wants to be free from Terri as his “ball and chain” then why not just grant her parents custody and let them attempt to rehabilitate her, unless he has further cause to want her dead to cover up possible and alleged abuse to her in the event that she miraculously recovers and is able to testify against him.

    (8) Although I do believe as you do that our soul will leave the body as soon as all vital functions are shut down, I also believe that not everyone is going to the same place no matter what their religion. I believe some will go to heaven and some will go to hell. You may be asking now if I believe that Terri is going to the latter place…and the answer is that I do not know where she is going because I do not know exactly what she believes and in whom is her trust. I know that she is Catholic and although I disagree with most Catholic doctrine, I do admit and accept that some Catholics will go to heaven and some will go to hell based on what they believe in their heart concerning their need for salvation and the Lord Jesus Christ. This applies to any person regardless of religious affiliation. I invite you to take the good test to find out where you stand. There are probably more reasons but due to time constraints this is all I can present at this time.

Thanks again for what you do and I urge you to consider all of the above.

    Respectfully, Chris Long

Terri Schiavo deserves a chance. Terri Schiavo deserves therapy. Terri Schiavo’s parents deserve a chance to care for her. Governor Bush and/or President Bush should rescue her! The Judges are wrong about Terri Schiavo! Michael Schiavo is just plain wrong! Terri Schiavo should continue to live!
